ARTS & CRAFTS OAK BENCH SETTLE BY SHAPLAND & PETTER

A rare Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple Arts and Crafts Oak Bench/Settle with storage.  The back with serpentine top rail and inset copper panel “Welcome Ever Smiles” flanked by stylised flowerheads having shaped vertical splats headed with inverted hearts the curved arm supports with twin pierced hearts to the panel below.  The serpentine fronted seat lifts to allow storage and stands on square section legs

The inscription ‘Welcome Ever Smiles’ is taken from Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida

Stamped design number R1129A 84 to rear
