A good architectural study of Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders.  The shadowed stonework at the right of the work is particularly competent. This style of painting, semi-abstracted, became a strong theme for Pittuck. The artist appears to have used four slightly different techniques for the groups of figures, an experiment maybe?

We are greatful to Douglas Pittucks Grandson for adving that Douglas always said the  figure to the left of centre in this painting was Van Gogh
