Exhibited at the Douglas Pittuck Exhibition 11th -13th June St Marys Parish Hall Barnard Castle
This relaxed work in watercolour over pen and ink typifies Pittuck’s more informal early work. The Castle at Barnard Castle is the most familiar of scenes. Pittuck captures the atmosphere of a Teesdale day with clearing blustery skies, possibly in early spring before the trees are in leaf. These images are well known to anyone who visits Teesdale and are evergreen in their popularity. This work was painted just after moving to Barnard Castle in 1948.
