We called this work The Protest but is could be a strike, we don’t know. The work in watercolour is fluid and competent and quick. The artist generates a sense of movement and noise, maybe even anger. The monochrome pallet suggests industry and maybe alludes to the struggle of working classes. Certainly there is unity as the figures overlap to form a continuous band of faces. Interesting that Pittuck has left the placards blank. Maybe this is an unfinished work or purposely uniform and universal to represent a wider struggle? The view separates the artist from the protestors. It may be the perspective of the Police or some other anonymous authority?
