ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON VERY EARLY ADZED & BURR OAK CABINET

This is most likely the earliest piece of Robert Thompson’s work we have ever owned.

Made circa 1918 and therefore unsigned.  This rare piece was initially given as a wedding present, it then remained in the same family until we purchased it.

The cupboard has an up-stand with carved trailing ribbon design and adzed top. It has a burr fascia with a central panel flanked on either side by a door with lug handle, enclosing adjustable shelving with each shelf hinged. The piece stands on stiles with fantastic incised banding

The whole piece is fully adzed to all visible areas in line with Thompson’s early work

A truly a stunning piece of furniture

From our own investigations, we believe this piece would originally have been used as a drinks cabinet with the adjustable shelves being used to store glasses

Lovely colour and condition.  The cabinet has been cleaned and sympathetically polished by our professional team
